PHILADELPHIA (1210 WPHT)- Hometown baseball star Phil Gosselin says he’s excited to get his first start in the area where his family and friends are, for the first time as a Philadelphia Phillie.

“I haven’t really been around home much since high school,” said Gosselin, a Malvern Preparatory School graduate. “I went away for college and I played on teams all over, so this is the closest I’ve ever been to home.”

“It’ll be cool no matter what happens, whether I’m in the Lehigh Valley or the big leagues. I’m close to home and my parents and my brother and my sister, and all my nieces and nephews. It’s really exciting.”

Gosselin recalled memories of another Malvern Prep graduate.

“I knew Ben (Davis) a little bit before this. I actually played in an adult league with Glen, his brother, in high school,” remembered Gosselin.  “I knew Glen probably a little better than Ben, but it’s always cool  seeing somebody who went to your high school…we’ve had some pretty cool athletes come out of there…it’s cool to run into them at this professional level.”

Gosselin explained it’s not all fun and games for the Phillies, with a rigorous training schedule and long hours to adhere to.

“Spring Training’s early…usually up at 6 a.m., 6:30 a.m.,” said Gosselin.

“We’re always bouncing around doing something, and then team meetings and all of that…it’s long days, it’s fun, and there’s nothing else I’d rather be doing.”
