Former Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee shared details from the incident at a restaurant involving his daughter, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders. Huckabee told Talk Radio 1210 WPHT’s Dom Giordano,

“It was really bizarre because I mean Sarah did what she was asked to do, which was to leave, which I found remarkable that she was asked to leave a restaurant. She was not making a scene; she did not create a problem. She simply went to have dinner after a three and a half hour drive.”

Huckabee went on to say, “She and her husband just left and the rest of the family went across the street to another restaurant and the owner of the Red Hen, Stephanie Wilknison, followed them across and gathered some other people together and began kind of a shouting situation and started harassing from outside the restaurant.”

Huckabee explained how the situation concluded, “Finally one of the family members walked out and said ‘Sarah is not even here, she’s five miles away, she left.’”

Huckabee went on to relay that Wilkinson’s actions to follow Huckabee-Sanders to the other restaurant show that this was just a way for Wilkinson to cause her own scene.

“It just shows though that this whole narrative that this was just a person that felt offended for her employees, that’s not really the accurate truth. This was a person who definitely wanted to make a scene, wanted to create a moment where I guess she could be celebrated by the Maxine Waters’ of the world and it’s unfortunate.”

The former Governor told Giordano that he himself has never been put in a situation where he was asked to leave a place of business.

“I’ve never been asked to leave some place. I know I’ve been in places where I was sneered at and people were obviously not happy I was there. Most people are incredibly nice, even people who run organizations or restaurants [that disagree]. I’ve had some come over and say ‘I just want you to know I don’t agree with your politics, I can’t hardly stand anything you stand for but I just wanted to say welcome to my place and I hope you enjoy the food.’

Gov. Huckabee did add that situations like this can sometimes be common, “I do have people that will sometimes come up to me in a public place and they’ll just lay into me.”
