PHILADELPHIA (1210 WPHT)- EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler said Philadelphia is on the radar of the White House Opportunity Zone and Revitalization Council.

“We want to make sure that those areas that have been left behind have some new funding opportunities…to help redevelop, and Philadelphia is certainly one of the areas where we’re focusing on,” said Wheeler.

In an interview with The Rich Zeoli Show, Wheeler explained how the Council came to be.

“This was created as part of the Trump tax bill last year,” said Wheeler. “And what this does is try to provide opportunities for distressed communities around the country.”

According to Wheeler, the money “will be spent on opportunities to create jobs for Americans who have been left behind for far too long.”

Wheeler said that the money for the Council's efforts will not come solely from taxpayers.

“Overall, we’re anticipating to spur $100 billion in private capital investment,” said Wheeler. “So this isn’t just taxpayer money, this is money from the federal government.”
